"Education is an investment in the future": Alabuga International School Celebrates Its 10th Anniversary

02.09.2024

In 2024, more than 100 children sat at their desks at the Alabuga International School.

On September 2, a solemn event was held at Alabuga International School to commemorate the Day of Knowledge and the 10th anniversary of the institution. The school, which opened its doors on September 1, 2014, is the first international school in Tatarstan and has played a vital role in the social infrastructure of the Alabuga Special Economic Zone (SEZ) over the past decade. It provides STEM education to the children of employees from resident factories and the SEZ management company, among others. Currently, 104 students attend the school.

This year, the organizers moved the event outdoors, setting up a buffet area and a stage on the football field. The makeshift venue was filled with parents, students, and newly admitted first-year students of the International Pedagogy program at Alabuga Polytech.

The event was opened with a welcoming speech by the head of the administration service of the educational cluster, Elvira Fomina.

"For the past ten years, we have been working to create a system that benefits both our children and our country. We believe that a fundamentally sound approach to developing the education system will yield leaders who are unafraid to tackle complex projects and drive technological advancements, as well as make new discoveries," the head of the education cluster stated while addressing the guests. She also emphasized that the international school is adopting a unique approach to teaching, incorporating industries into the curriculum to foster the country’s development.

Then Timur Shagivaleev, CEO of the Alabuga Special Economic Zone, took the floor.

"Absolutely! Education is not just an investment; it's the cornerstone of our nation's future, the prosperity of our region, the growth of our special economic zone, and the bright potential of our children. We have established a cutting-edge learning system—an International Baccalaureate program—fortified by mathematics, technology, biotechnology, and computer science. While these investments may not yield immediate returns, the human capital we cultivate through them will empower our youth to propel our country forward. They are the innovators who will build powerful factories, pioneering laboratories, and so much more," Shagivaleev passionately declared.

The official proceedings continued with the recognition of students from the school who achieved podium places at the Singapore International Vanda Olympiad. This prestigious event sees schoolchildren from around the globe competing in natural sciences, including physics, chemistry, and biology. Additionally, a revamped kindergarten program for children aged 3 to 6 was introduced.

The celebration concluded with a fun-filled event for parents, where they were invited to recall their own school days on Knowledge Day and engage in an intellectual quiz.

Meanwhile, the children started their first lesson of the academic year.
