Kastamonu increased fourfold the product shipment from Alabuga by water transport

25.08.2017
The woodworking enterprise Kastamonu has an extensive product supply network both inside and outside of Russia. To date, most of the products are shipped to the customers by road — over 70%. However, the share of water transport in the shipments is growing rapidly.

The share of motor transportation (haulage and container) in the delivery of finished products to the customers of Kastamonu in the first six months of 2017 amounts to 74 per cent of all shipment types. Running second is railway shipment with 15 per cent, and 11 per cent accrues to water transport. Let us note that in the same period of the last year the share of water transport was less than 4 per cent. In the navigation period, the convenient geographical location of the Alabuga SEZ near the navigational routes on the Kama and Volga rivers and accesses to the Caspian, Black and Mediterranean seas stipulates the perspective development of water transport in particular.

«The increase of the share of exports, lengthening of the product delivery route implies a trend in the displacement of shipments in favor of water transport,» said Ali Kılıç, General Director of the Kastamonu plant in Russia. «This is quite natural, as logistics costs decrease and, accordingly, the product competitiveness in the domestic and foreign markets grows. Due to the fact that the navigation period in the central part of Russia is limited, we should use this time as efficiently as possible.»

Most shipments by Kastamonu are realized in the central part of Russia. In its turn, the geography of export sales includes about 20 European (including the EU) and Asian countries. With the increase of the production capacity after launching the second production line at the plant the share of export sales is expected to grow from today’s 30 per cent to 40-45 per cent.
