Today, on June 4, at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, an agreement on the development of a special economic zone in the Novgorod region between SEZ “Alabuga” and “Novgorod region development agency” was signed. On the part of the Novgorod Oblast Development Agency, the agreement was signed by the director Alexander Dementyev, on the part of the special economic zone - by the general director Timur Shagivaleev.

The agreement implies the creation and effective development of the created special economic zone on the territory of the Novgorod Oblast and filling it with residents, taking into account the specifics of the region and its most competitive sectors of the economy, as well as the need to create conditions for strengthening each of its sectors and obtaining a synergistic effect from their interaction.

General Director of SEZ "Alabuga" Timur Shagivaleev believes that the development of industry is strategically important for any region. And with the creation of the SEZ, the Novgorod region will be able to significantly expand this area.

“We have been cooperating with the leadership of the Novgorod Oblast for a long time, this is a very effective team. The region has an excellent location between Moscow and St. Petersburg, which does not compete with the current site of SEZ "Alabuga". We have been given real powers to develop zone in the Novgorod Oblast. Together with the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, we have removed legal and administrative barriers under Resolution No. 1704, which previously did not allow the construction of finished production facilities and the creation of joint management companies”, Timur Shagivaleev comments on the signing of the agreement.

Director of the “Novgorod region development agency” Alexander Dementyev emphasized that due to long-term interaction with the team of SEZ "Alabuga", the creation of the SEZ in the region has become a reality. “We have a warm working relationship with SEZ Alabuga. This is indeed one of the largest zones in Russia, with an experienced management who is ready to share with us the best practices in creating SEZs and attracting investments”, said Alexander Dementyev.

On the territory of the economic zone, it is planned to build an enterprise for the production of microelectronics, an ultra-modern complex for the production of medicines, as well as enterprises for the production of trailers and semi-trailers, heat and sound insulation materials and others. At the moment, confirmation has been received from seven potential residents of the special economic zone "Novgorodskaya" about their intentions to implement investment projects. The projected volume of investments by residents by 2030 will amount to more than 8 billion rubles. More than 700 jobs are planned to be created.

A new special economic zone will be created on the territory of the Novgorodsky District of the Novgorod Oblast with a total area of more than 180 hectares. To create an industrial infrastructure, the regional government plans to invest 5 billion rubles.

Remind that in October 2020, the special economic zone "Alabuga" signed a cooperation agreement with the Novgorod Oblast in order to create a SEZ in the region. Also, on February 9, 2021, a preliminary shareholder agreement was signed between SEZ Alabuga and SEAI NRDA, confirming the intentions for further cooperation and joint development of the project to create a special economic zone of industrial and production type in the Novgorod Oblast.

At the moment, the Government of the Novgorod Oblast has sent an application for the creation of a special economic zone of an industrial-production type in the territory of the Novgorod Oblast to the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation. The application is at the stage of regulatory approval.
