«Made in Russia»: how the SEZ «Alabuga» replaces imported production and trains human resources

The federal channel Russia 24 broadcast a new episode of the program «Made in Russia» dedicated to the topic of import substitution. Anton Borisov, a correspondent, has visited the SEZ «Alabuga» and the Aconit-Alabuga plant for the production of high-tech metal structures, which was launched at new capacities in October last year.

Borisov was shown the process of manufacturing metal structures and rollers for conveyor equipment at the plant.

«Now we are producing 200 tons of metal structures and 60 thousand tons of rollers monthly. Investments in this project amount to 2 billion rubles. Also, heavy mainline rollers are now being prepared for serial production», - Alexander Ivanov, CEO of Aconit-Ural and Aconit-Alabuga, shared with the journalist. He also added that the company was able to import substitution of production.

It is worth noting that rollers for conveyors are now actively exported to CIS countries as well. Aconit-Alabuga's products are mostly used in the mining industry.

According to the General Director, today the company hires young specialists, particularly those without work experience.

SEZ «Alabuga» has taken a more complex approach to the staff shortage of residents and the management company. Alabuga Polytech, the largest educational center, was created to provide qualified workers. The center implements a dual training program, where students are trained on modern equipment under the guidance of the best engineers of Alabuga resident plants in the first half of the day, and in the second half of the day they study subjects in specialized secondary education institutions. At the same time, they undergo internships in the company's specialized divisions. Upon graduation, the graduates become highly qualified and in-demand specialists in the labor market with work experience.

As a reminder, Alabuga is the No. 1 special economic zone in Russia. Today it is a full-cycle partner that provides the best engineering, construction, logistics, human resources and social infrastructure. The SEZ hosts more than 30 unique import-substituting production facilities that are leaders in their respective industries. The total amount of private investment is 162 billion rubles, 11 thousand jobs have been created, and residents' revenue for 2022 amounted to 138 billion rubles. In addition to tax benefits, residents have access to ready-made production facilities with all the necessary infrastructure that meet Industry 4.0 standards. Last year 200 thousand square meters of premises were built, and the same amount will be commissioned this year.
